Re-Designed: Sprinx

Sprinx is a 2 column masonry blog whose main feature are the different colored post backgrounds on the home page. Quite a nice idea, except that the whole thing was lacking hierachy and structure because of some bad typographic desicions that the original craator had made: Wrong sizes, wrong font weights, and ultimately what I also consider to be a wrong font choice. The dreaded Open Sans. How does a font that has no particular merits and quite a few shortcomings, become so popular, I wonder? Anyway, I changed it to Barlow, which is a font that I recommend highly. Not only is it very well structured (excellent baseline and x-height) but it also comes in many weights and widths. And then, something else that I think these little colored post boxes needed was for the texts in them to be uppercase, so that we can get a really good top line.

Outside of the font changes (of which there were many) there is not much that I changed. Added my random posts widget, which I really like, to the sidebar. But other than that, the layout width and so on I left as is. I also did not interefere with the colored posts because I think that that is quite a nice idea but I did make a lesser saturated version which you can see above together with the colored one.

I don't know if this a theme that I would use on my own blogs but it is a nice alternative that one might use on a personal blog or maybe something to do with vacations or food. Quite nice, really, once the tyopgraphy has been starigtened out.
