Re-Designed: NewsPaper

June 23, 2022
This is a tweak that I am really proud of. I went out on a limb with using different weighted strokes to separate the different sections and I think that this has worked out really well in giving the structure the solidity that was missing from the original. I replaced all the fonts which were all Montserrat, mostly used in lowercase and with a p…

Re-Designed: Kaplan

June 18, 2022
Now, this is one gorgeous magazine theme. So nice, in fact, that it made me overlook something which I really did not like that the original creators (Blossom Themes) had done here, which is that they inserted very big advertisements both on the home page and the top and the bottom of the post page. And, you cannot delete these, as soon as you do…

Re-Designed: PhotoMag

June 16, 2022
This is one beauty of a photography blog theme, perfect for all types of portfolios. There is one problem with it however that I do have to alert prospective users to: You have to sometimes reload it in order to get the top header bar to work properly. There are situations where all you get is a very narrow bar at the top into which the logo bar…

Re-Designed: Grider

June 14, 2022
When I first looked at 'Grider' I wasn't at all sure that tweaking this would be worth it - it looked so desolate. In the event I am glad that I did it because I now like it quite a bit. It took me a very long time to get the background image to work and those who want to use this tweak with their own backgrounds should be aware that…

Re-Designed: Kate

There is a rather bad habit that many theme creators have and that is putting a dark overlay on top of photos. There is a reasoning for that, of course - they want to ensure that the texts that get put on top of these images can be read. But, the result is usually a muddy disaster. In my estimation it would be wiser to trust the end user to choo…

Re-Designed: Minimal

June 10, 2022
The biggest change that I made on this theme was changing the padding of the post thumbnails on the main feed so that they join each other. This padding can be changed to something wider and there are instructions in the package on how to do that. I also eliminated the sidebar and made the post area wider. And then, there were of course the many…

Re-Designed: November

June 09, 2022
It will be easier to show you this template with a video rather than screenshots since the slider animation at the top is important and also this is a really long page. The first video below shows you what it ended up becoming after my tweak and the second is the "before state. What I did was a lot of typographic adjustments, everything els…

Re-Designed: X-Max

June 09, 2022
This is another template that will be easier to show with a video rather than screenshots since this is one long page in which there is a parallax scroll effect that does need to be seen in motion. The first video below shows you what it ended up becoming after my tweak and the second is the "before" state. What I did was a lot of typo…

Re-Designed: Saara Fashion

May 17, 2022
Once it is brightened up, this is one of the nicest "festured posts" slider themes that I have come across in a while. The big tweak involved deleting the gray overlay on the slider. And once I figured out how to do that the beauty of the thing really came out. One thing about the slider though: The way you will see the featured post ima…

Re-Designed: Claire

The thing that this template in its original state lacked more than anything else was structure. I tried to fixed the problem by widening the layout so that the both the main wrapper as well as the side wrapper got more width and substance. And then the second thing that I did was to add strokes between the posts on the homepage which I think al…

Re-Designed: Sprinx

April 06, 2022
Sprinx is a 2 column masonry blog whose main feature are the different colored post backgrounds on the home page. Quite a nice idea, except that the whole thing was lacking hierachy and structure because of some bad typographic desicions that the original craator had made: Wrong sizes, wrong font weights, and ultimately what I also consider to be…

Re-Designed: The Shutter Theme

April 03, 2022
Shutter is a beauty of a template with infinite scrolling and a huge top slider that was created by Blossom Themes > > > where one can still see it on their test templates list. However finding the XML file for it is pretty much impossible nowadays. Thankfully, I downloaded it while it was still around, and now decided to take a whack at …

Re-Designed: The Expose theme

April 01, 2022
Here I had to do quite a bit of cleanup work on what is actually a very nice template. The issue is that you really cannot have any of the "recent post" widgets and so on, that the original author put on the layout tab since they scramble up the grid. I removed all of them from the layout panel, however this does not mean that you will n…

Re-Designed: Simplify

February 05, 2022
There are only 2 things that I changed on this: The first was a problem on the header in that for some reason the original creator (who I think is actually Blossom Themes , although this is listed under the colorlib theme portal) had left the area that is designated for the logo very narrow. And then I also changed the font of the logo. The second …
